Brief History
Our Origin Story
The concept of forming LCA-DFW emerged in 1977, following the tragic demise of Mr. John Seton, a fellow Liberian who lacked insurance, stable employment, and left behind two young sons. Mr. Seton's prolonged illness resulted in financial destitution. As students and part-time
workers earning minimum wage ($2.30 at best), the Liberian community in Dallas faced a poignant challenge: providing Mr. Seton a dignified farewell.
An appeal to the City of Dallas yielded limited assistance of $250.00, and through community contributions and the generosity of Wilson Funeral Home, cremation arrangements were made. This tragedy sparked a collective commitment: to never face similar hardships alone again.
From this shared experience, LCA-DFW was established. Throughout immigration struggles, education, marriage, business ventures, and raising families, our members persevered. Many who arrived as students or visitors are now successful parents, grandparents, professionals, and business owners. Our children have become doctors, nurses, engineers, scientists, IT professionals, teachers, and entrepreneurs. The success and blessings within our community are evident.
